With this advanced Soil Calculator or dirt calculator, you can easily estimate the amount of soil or dirt required for filling your garden or landscape bed or for various purposes.
Soil Calculator Use :
- This calculator is extremely simple to use.
- To begin, choose the unit for which you want to enter the dimensions.
- Next, enter the dimensions of your area/garden (L, W, D) as well as the depth of the required soil bed.
- The results will be displayed in the following units: cubic metre, cubic foot, cubic yard, quarts, tonnes, and pounds.
- When purchasing soil in bulk, you can count on volumes.
- Results in pounds will help you to choose the required no. of bags.
How to Measure the Dimensions of Garden?
Nobody lives in a house with a perfectly rectangular or square-shaped garden. But how do you figure out how much soil you’ll need for an irregularly shaped garden? The solution is simple: Divide the garden as much as possible into rectangular or square shapes.
Figures 1 and 2 show that the garden or land dimensions are not rectangular or square, but rather irregular. Make small square and rectangular shapes to calculate the volume of soil in such a way that the maximum area is covered. Simply add the results of the various blocks to find the volume of exact soil required.

How Many Soil Bags Do I Need?
It is not at all difficult to estimate the number of bags soil you’ll require for your garden when you have exact volume of soil and the bag size.
There are different types of soil bag sizes available in the market. For example:
- If the seller’s bag size is 0.75 cubic feet and your estimated soil volume is 15 cubic feet, you’ll need 20 soil bags. The formula is as follows: 15/0.75 = 20.
- If the seller’s bag size is 25 pounds (lbs) and your estimated soil volume is 2.62 cubic yards, you’ll need a total of 6615 lbs of soil i.e 265 bags of soil. The formula is as follows: 6615/25 = 264.6
- We have created this soil calculator to help you out in each possible way.
- You can even estimate the weight of required soil in pounds, tonnes and quarts.
- The same process will go on for different units.
- If you only need a small amount of soil, you can buy it in bags, but if you have a large land area or garden, you should buy it in bulk (cu.yd or cu.ft).
